Sonnet: April 24-May 8, 2025

Rounding out Poetry Month, this week’s assignment is to write a sonnet, using your pet or favorite animal as the subject.

The Submissions:

“Sonnet No. K-9” - by Captain Quillard

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more smelly and more shedding prone
I know I make you sad when I’m away
So please accept as penance a Milk-Bone
Sometimes I go out for petroleum
And run more errands while I am about
And you will pee on the linoleum
Since I’m not there when you need to go out
But though you pee and bark and scratch the wall
You’re cute and fun and cuddle in the bed
You haven’t learned to fetch or catch the ball
But I adore your furry little head
So go ahead and drool and fart and snore
I don’t think I could love you any more

Next Week’s Assignment:

Pretend you’re back in elementary school, and create a crafty Mother’s Day gift to give to or to honor your mom. We’re talkin’ hand prints in clay, macaroni art, paper plate flowers, etc. The cheesier the better.

Due May 15 by 7:00 p.m.
