Turn the Clocks Back: October 30-November 6, 2025
Write a poem or song inspired by Daylight Saving Time or “turning the clocks back.”

(I ran out of time this week, so while I was looking forward to writing some kind of elaborate song about time, unfortunately all you get is a last minute haiku.)
Why does no one know
that it’s “Saving,” not “Savings”?
Am I going nuts?

It’s my opportunity to crank out a rhyme.
Call it an ode to Daylight Savings Time.
The orange, purple and pink of October have gone away.
The November temps have cooled and skies more gray.
I woke in the dark just Saturday.
A digital blip adjusted what used to be chaos and disarray.
Changing tiny dials and buttons, over the course of the day or week.
Not much of that now, maybe a microwave, an oven or old clock with hands to tweak.
Sunday I woke to crisp foggy light.
Everything softer after an hour more sleep that night.
It’s Monday, Monday and 4:30 a.m. is no good to me.
Too early to rise yet and make some tea.
A list forms, just bubbling up of all the things I could do.
Change sheets, laundry, mail the post, banking too.
Make some calls, pick up a few things, cook some stew?
This is not an hour saved, it’s wasted, it’s doo-doo!
Over the next week I’m sure I’ll adjust.
After all this happens every year and we must.
Daylight savings time, hooray.
To me, happy stinking Monday.

Next Week’s Assignment:
Take time to relax this week, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Create art of any type you like, somehow born out of your relaxation - inspired by it, related to it, about it, caused by it, whatever.
